"Mzansi" is an informal name for South Africa in Xhosa language as the project is devoted to South African women of Xhosa and Zulu decent. The project started spontaneously after my friend asked me to draw her.  Since then I was depicting her, her friends, and family. "Mzansi" is a tribute to the grace and resilience with which these women carry their story of overcoming family expectations and social constraints on their way to self-sufficiency.
